Maluh De Felice, DMA
Dr. Maluh De Felice earned both the Bachelor (1992) and the Master (1997) of Musical Arts degrees in Violin Performance through the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. In 1999 she was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance at the University of Miami, earning the degree in May 2004.
Nominated three years in a row for the Brazilian International Press Award as the Best Brazilian Musician in the U.S. (2009, 2010, 2011 Editions), Dr. De Felice’s primary interest has always been to search and to perform mainly Brazilian 19th century chamber music which is rarely played, some being, before her research, almost completely unknown to the public. She was a member for many years of “Duo Trésor” with pianist Vanessa Vignovich, and later on with pianist Giulio Draghi, performing Brazilian ChamberMusic from different eras.
As violinist for ten years of the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra, considered the best Symphonic Orchestra in Latin America at the time (1990 – 1999), Dr.De Felice performed an average of 90 different programs a year. With this orchestra, she played along renowned soloists such as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingos, Jose Carreras, Nelson Freire, Antonio Menezes, Dimitri Sitkovetsky, and Jean-Pierre Rampal. She performed under the direction of some of the most acclaimed conductors of the 20th century, such as Kurt Masur. She was also a violinist of the Rio de Janeiro Opera and Ballet Theater (1995-1997), Orchestra Petrobrás Pró-Música of Rio de Janeiro (1994-1999) and the Miami City Ballet (2010-2012).
Dr. De Felice was a faculty member of the Brazilian Conservatory of Music (1996-1999), an institution of higher education in which she taught Violin, Viola, Music Theory, Music History, Brazilian Music History and Repertoire (classical and popular),Chamber Music, and Symphonic Repertoire. She held a full-time position as the Orchestra Director at Felix Varela Senior High (2004-2006), a performing arts school in Miami, FL. In the U.S., she was also a faculty member at the Miami Dade College in which she taught Violin Performance and Chamber Music (2006-2008).
In 2010 she received an invitation to go back to Brazil to develop and implement the first music education curriculum for the entire public school system in that country – a pilot program created to serve as model for the entire state of São Paulo, and later on for other states through online teacher training, as only in 2012, by a federal law, music education started to be mandatory in K-12 schools in that country. The position also included the development and the supervision of a live teacher training program of 900 teachers in order to first implement the curriculum (2012-2014).
Back to the U.S. in 2014, De Felice worked closely with internally acclaimed maestro Nowak Grzegorz, permanent associate conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, helping to prepare undergraduate and graduate instrumental students for their Symphonic Orchestra Repertoire at the Florida International University (2015-2016).
