Jessica Matthews

Piano

Jess Tracy (Matthews) has pursued a love of music her entire life. She began playing piano at the age of seven, and flute at the age of eleven. She earned her Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Florida, and went on to receive a Master’s in Music Education from the Boston Conservatory. During her time in Massachusetts, Jess taught elementary music in the Winchester and Westborough Public Schools, and worked as an accompanist in the greater Boston area. She also led the Carlisle Community Chorus, and taught private piano lessons for the Berklee Institute for Arts Education and Special Needs.

After returning home to Florida, Jess taught General Music at the University School of Davie to students in Junior Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, while also facilitating an elementary chorus, ukulele club and Orff ensemble. Jess finds great joy in sharing the love of music with young minds in schools and through private lessons. She is passionate about fostering every aspect of musicianship, from composing and improvising to note reading and artistry, and believes that music shapes (and is shaped by) who we are as people. She strives to create a positive, encouraging and fun lesson environment that is sensitive to the student’s age, personality and goals.
